Cooking

Students can participate a weekly cooking program on campus.   The program incorporates skill building to support independent living. Students engage in menu planning, grocery shopping, food preparation and selling the items as appropriate.  Students obtain their Safe Serve Food Handler’s permit.  Laundry and clean-up skills are also developed through this program.

Successful nutritional planning and food preparation of  items including salads, burritos, tacos, spaghetti, cookies, pigs in a blanket, hot dogs/chili dogs, soups and more enhances students independent living skill set.  The best part about the process is that the students learn lifelong skills of food handling and kitchen safety along with menu planning and budgeting for their menus.  All students have the option to participate throughout the school year.
