Our Mission


Ocean View Non-Public School (NPS) serves students with unique needs grades 3rd through 12th and nongraded young adults to the age of 22.   Ocean View NPS provides a therapeutic,  individualized 1:1 and small group instruction to accommodate student’s academic, emotional, behavioral and developmental needs.   Ocean View can also serve students in the Autism Spectrum who are working toward their High School Diploma or High School Certificate of Completion.  All  academic curriculum is California Common Core Standard based and approved by the California Department of Education and local agencies to meet and/or exceed California Department of Education and School District Standards and State Diploma requirements.  Academics are accommodated or modified to meet individual student needs.

Utilizing Cognitive-Behavioral, Mindfulness and Behavior Modification research based techniques, growth is enhanced through the support of a multidisciplinary team of professionals..  Positive role-modeling, therapeutic support, positive reinforcement, individualized accommodation, contingency contracting and insight oriented processing support progress and skill development.  Ocean View’s therapeutic community is tolerant of individual differences.   Ocean View strives to maintain an “Expect Respect” culture that provides an environment conducive to students thriving while experiencing a sense of emotional and physical support and safety at all times.

Ocean View’s student-to-teacher & staff ratio provides individualized attention in small groups with 1:1 support.  Highly-skilled and experienced staff work closely with each student to help promote academic and social growth and development.

The Ocean View Model fosters self-esteem enhancement, confidence, independent and leadership skill development.  The school community supports  positive decision-making, community understanding and the identification of effective coping skills.  Problem solving, self advocacy and resourcefulness is promoted, modeled, and taught to support student’s development of critical thinking skills, effective communication and relationship building in all aspects of academic and social interaction.

Supplemental enrichment activities include goal-oriented training in leisure & recreational activities, development of daily independent living skills, social & emotional coping skills, visual & performing arts, competitive and intramural athletic opportunities. Ocean View also offers a variety of pre-vocational and vocational training and experiential educational opportunities including team building, community based learning and educational field trips.  Ocean View’s school community collaborates and maintains valued community based partnerships that  enhance and enrich learning opportunities.  Enrichment activities and community based instruction activities are  designed to support the establishment of a positive support network and awareness of future opportunities.

Elective courses offered include Foreign Language, Vocational Experience, Study Skills, Driver’s Education, Culinary Arts, Career Exploration, Community Service, Music Enrichment, Fine Arts and many others.  Ocean View students participate in local community based instruction opportunities in local community colleges and other programs.

Ocean View’s programs and milieu provide educational, social, and vocational experiences that contribute to the development of a meaningful Community Service Log,  individualized Resume and a personalized “Life Skills Toolkit”.  Students develop an individualized resource directory and support network that facilitates student progress, competency and academic success.
